The .NET Framework is the programming model of the .NET platform for building, deploying, and running XML Web services and applications. It provides a highly productive, standards-based environment for integrating existing investments with next-generation applications and services and the agility to solve the challenges of deployment and operation of Internet-scale applications.
The .NET Framework consists of two main parts, common language runtime and a unified set of class libraries, including ASP.NET for Web applications and XML Web services, Windows Forms for smart client applications, and ADO.NET for loosely-coupled data access.
